Many years ago a most beautiful tapestry was created. It was perfect in every way woven together with the finest of threads, all of them different, some of them made of the softest cotton, others of the smoothest silk and even a few made of the sparkly metallic variety.
However as time went on, life was not as kind to this precious work of art as it could have been. As the years wore on so did the threads, some came unraveled, some lost their bright color, many of them began to pull away from the original picture and could be found hanging sadly onto the canvas they were stitched onto.
The day came when those threads no longer resembled a beautiful picture, many people lost hope and stopped believing in the beauty that once was there.
One day however those threads began to come together once more. They were now damaged and broken and the image they formed looked nothing like the original. But they were still a beautiful work of art, one that has had to see itself in a new light to find worth and acceptance in this world.
This is our story. Many years ago during the course of a traumatic and often abusive childhood the original person born to this body could no longer remain as she was in order to survive. When this body was 6, ~K~ went to sleep and it has been our goal ever since to live out her life until she is able to wake up.
Parts of us unraveled from her and became separate personalities who could then handle the fear, the pain and the trauma happening around us on a daily basis. Most of us are children though this body is 32 years old. Our oldest functioning members are currently only 11 though they are wise beyond their years and working on learning to grow and become adults. There are currently over 150 of us inside though only 12 or so come out in day to day life. We were diagnosed 13 years ago and have come a long, long way since then, but still have far to go.
We function in the real world to an extent but on the inside we are still a ragtag bunch of lost souls still fighting to believe in the precious work of art that we once were and that with hope and healing we want to have faith we can be again. We are so, so lucky to have some many friends who support us along the way, some in our offline life and many others who live thousands of miles away, they are all a part of the safe circle of people helping us to carefully wind and weaves our threads back together.
Even if the end result looks different from the original, does not mean that it can't also be beautiful in it's own unique and special way. This site is our journey, our creative work in progress. We hope that it helps others as much to read it, as it has for us to have created it.
